Disney Pixar’s Piston Cup Champion Ultimate Lightning McQueen is making tracks and this time it’s not on the big screen. Smart toy maker Sphero, unveiled the their Ultimate Lightning McQueen at the end of the May 2017 and it seems to have left other toys in it’s class, well, in the dust.
What makes this toy car unique and different from anything else out there? It’s packed with personality. Sphero has made a clear step-change in toy creation by creating a smart toy that can not only be controlled by the user but more importantly, be interacted with. Sphero have, effectively, breathed life into the toy car by giving it the ability to show expressions through its animated eyes, an animatronic mouth, and emotive suspension giving users an experience of Lightning McQueen like never before. To see an example of it action, Sphero have put up a video showcasing some of its key features.
The car can be controlled within a 30 meter range and should be able to get approximately 40 minutes of battery life. Charge time takes about an hour. Want to take take him for a spin? Put him in drive mode and “watch him lean into hairpin turns and drift like a pro.” Wheel spins are possible and although it clocks out at approximately 6 MPH, it seems just as fast as a spinning fidget spinner. What's more, the cool part to this is that the app not only acts as a controller but is also used to “build racing strategy” which is a great feature to use when competing with other racers!
When Cars 3 hit the cinemas it grossed a total $53.5 million in its domestic debut. The Ultimate Lightning McQueen may not have had as big as an impact as Disney would have liked it to when Cars 3 hit the cinemas but Sphero’s version might just become the sensation toy it hopes to become in the near future. What do you think? If Lightning McQueen put the pedal to the metal could it become just as, if not more, popular than the likes of the wild fire that is the fidget cube, or past crazes that have woven themselves into the very fabric of family entertainment like Jenga, or even Lego? Only time will tell.
The Ultimate Lightning McQueen retails at $299 but check out Amazonfor deals on the racer. Comments are closed.
